Aftercare

What To Expect

  • Redness, tenderness, and localised swelling are all completely normal in the early healing stages.

  • A clear to whitish discharge may occur, this dries into a crust around the piercing site.

  • Itching, bruising, or a small amount of bleeding can also happen.

Do's and Don'ts

  • Hands off! Avoid touching your piercing whenever possible. If you must, always wash your hands thoroughly first.

  • Keep products away. Steer clear of makeup, skincare, false tan, or any cosmetics near the piercing.

  • No swimming or saunas. Avoid these, along with baths or any bodies of water, for the first 3 months.

  • Stay clean. Change your bedding regularly and sanitise items like your phone to reduce bacteria exposure.

  • Dry carefully. Always dry your piercing fully after cleaning or showering.

  • Avoid pressure. Don't let personal items or clothing press against your piercings. Such as headphones on helix piercings, or high waisted jeans on navel piercings.

  • No sleeping on it. For ear piercings, a travel or donut pillow works great! Rest your ear in the centre to keep pressure off.

Downsizing

Once the initial swelling goes down, it's important to book your downsize. Leaving jewellery too long can cause excess movement, migration, and longer healing times. Sometimes this can result in the piercing needing to be retired!

Aftercare Instructions

  1. Remove any jewellery on your hands or wrists that could catch on the piercing, and tie back long hair.

  2. Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap.

  3. Test your saline spray by releasing a quick spray to check the stream and pressure.

  4. Hold the spray a couple of inches from your piercing and spray both the front and back for a few seconds to help dissolve any debris.

  5. Apply a little saline to a cotton bud or non-woven gauze, then gently clean around the front and back to remove any buildup.

  6. Dry the piercing and surrounding area completely using a fresh cotton bud, gauze, or kitchen roll.

Repeat this process 1-2 times daily.

You can also let warm water run over your piercing in the shower. If you do this, avoid soaps or other products on the area. After your shower, always follow the drying step!
